Privacy policy

1. Data controller

The Curacao Bookmakers research team, described on the about page, runs this site and is responsible for the personal data covered by this policy. No company name or postal address is published for the site, so this policy states neither.

Privacy questions go to info@curacaobookmakers.co.uk. That address is the only contact route for anything in this policy.

2. Our principles

This site collects as little personal data as it can and keeps what it holds for a short time. It has no accounts, no sign-up and no contact form.

The site is written for adults aged 18 or over, and no personal data is knowingly collected from anyone younger. If someone under 18 has written to the contact address, the message can be deleted on request.

3. What data we collect and on what basis

The only personal data visitors give us is what they put in an email to the contact address: the sender's email address and whatever the message contains. We use it to answer the message, on the basis of our legitimate interest in replying to people who write to us.

Some data is collected automatically. The server writes one access log line for each request in the standard combined format: the visitor's IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the response status and size, the referring page and the browser's user agent string. The logs keep the site running and secure by showing errors and abuse. The basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure site, and the logs are not used for analytics or advertising.

The site has no analytics tool, sets no cookies of its own and uses no browser storage. A browser check of the built pages found no cookies and nothing in local or session storage. The cookie policy covers this in full.

Pages make no requests to any address outside the site: fonts load from the site's own server, and the short script on each page only works the menus, makes no requests and stores nothing. No outside company therefore receives a visitor's data when a page loads.

The site's hosting provider, Hostinger, supplies the server that holds the access logs.

Personal data is disclosed to a court, regulator or other public authority only where the law requires it.

Links on these pages can lead to bookmaker websites and other outside sites. Each has its own privacy policy, which applies once a visitor is on it, and this policy does not cover them. Read that policy before giving any data.

5. Transfers outside the UK

The site is hosted on a server in Germany, so page requests and access logs are processed outside the UK. The site itself sends visitor data to no other country.

6. Retention and data security

Access logs are rotated daily and deleted after 14 rotations, so each line is kept for about 14 days.

Emails sent to the contact address are kept only as long as needed to deal with the message, then deleted.

Security rests on holding little data: the access logs stay on the server and are shared with no one.

7. Your rights

Anyone whose personal data we hold has rights under UK data protection law. Each is set out here in plain words.

You can ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy. You can ask us to correct data that is wrong, and to delete data we no longer need.

You can ask us to limit how your data is used while a dispute about it is settled, and you can object to a use that rests on our legitimate interests. You can ask for the data you gave us in a portable form, and where consent is the basis you can withdraw it at any time.

To use any of these rights, write to info@curacaobookmakers.co.uk and say what you are asking for. We may ask for proof of identity so that data goes only to the right person. The access logs are tied to an IP address, so include the address you used if your request concerns them.

8. Right to complain

The privacy regulator for UK players is the Information Commission's Office (ICO). Anyone who believes their personal data has been misused can complain to it.

The ICO advises raising the concern with the organisation first: “In most cases, we recommend that you raise your concern with the organisation first and give them a chance to put things right.” It adds: “If you’re unhappy with the organisation’s response, you can then complain to the ICO.” For this site, that means writing to the contact address first.

If the answer does not settle the matter, the ICO takes complaints through its website, and its phone number is 0303 123 1113.

9. Changes to this policy

Changes to this policy are posted on this page. The date shown under the page title moves with each change, and a change to what data is collected or why is stated in the section it affects.

This policy sits alongside the terms of use, which apply to the site as a whole.
